Teacher training helps to improve children’s learning so they can thrive at school. Education is the greatest weapon in the fight against poverty.

Education and training

These gifts support our work to provide children and adults in poor communities with opportunities to learn through formal education, as well as vocational and skills training.

A major component of our response to HIV and AIDS is educating all members of the community on prevention. Innovative approaches, such as “community conversation”, enable HIV-affected communities to identify their needs and make joint decisions about the best ways to respond to them.

Workshops and leadership training help children and adults understand their legal rights and learn more about gender-based violence and sexual health issues. Youth groups are trained to use drama to spread safe sex messages. Improving access to voluntary HIV testing and counselling services, as well as community-based support for children and families affected by HIV and AIDS are also important elements of this work.
