Child sponsorship
is a gift that means
more than you think.

As a child sponsor, the difference you'll make means more than you think. You'll help to create lasting change in children's lives by transforming the world where they live.

By helping to meet basic needs for things like clean water, healthcare, education, improved farming and income opportunities, you'll help to break the poverty cycle. And you'll give your sponsored child and other children in the area the chance to reach their full potential.

Why clean water means more than you think.

When children like Einoti get water close to home it can mean...

  • better health, more energy
  • more time for school, family and friends
  • safety from dangers outside the village
  • freedom to dream, freedom to be children

Close access to clean drinking water helps to protect children from waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera and typhoid so they have good health and energy to grow and learn.

When they don't have to walk several hours a day to fetch water for their family, children can attend school regularly and spend more time playing. With a clean water tap right in their village, they don't have to worry about snakes, wild animals or the threat of sexual violence on their long journey to the nearest water source.

When you sponsor a child like Einoti, you'll help to provide the basics - like access to clean water - as well as the care, protection and opportunities that every child deserves.

Child sponsorship is about more than just clean water

Help to change a child's life...

...by transforming the
      world they live in.

Experience has taught us that the best way to change a child's life is to transform the world they live in - their family, community and the local area. As a child sponsor, your support can help to transform a child's world by addressing needs like:

  • water and sanitation
  • health and hygiene
  • food and agriculture
  • education and children's rights
  • income generation

World Vision works with community groups and local governments to deliver development projects that are tailored to meet local needs and that can improve the wellbeing of all children and families living in that area, long term.

These lasting changes give your sponsored child and other children in the area the chance to grow into adults who can provide for themselves and their own children and contribute to their community.

Changing more lives than you think

As a sponsor, you'll get to see the impact you are making on an entire community through the eyes of your sponsored child.

Visiting my sponsor child Gresi was a life changing experience. It was wonderful to see firsthand how a small contribution each month is giving real hope to Gresi and the children of Shambarai.
Tristen, Melbourne

The connection you make by sharing stories, experiences and hope with your sponsored child and their family can enrich your life and create lasting memories. It can touch your whole family as your own children learn more about the world they live in and how they can make a difference for children, just like them, who live in poverty.

Do you know where World Vision's funds go?

We work hard to make sure that all funds donated to us are used as efficiently and effectively as possible to bring maximum impact to children and communities in need.

80.3%

Funds to international programs (75.6%)
Domestic programs (0.9%)

Program support costs (2.7%)

These funds go to support and carry out programs that benefit children and their communities. This includes our work here in Australia with Indigenous communities and our KIDS HOPE AUS. mentoring program. It also includes public awareness campaigns to change systems and policies that contribute to global poverty and injustice.

The figures below show how World Vision Australia's funds were spent in 2010 and refer to all funds received by World Vision Australia including gift in kind donations and government grants, not just those received for Child Sponsorship.

19.7%

Administration (8.7%)
Fundraising (11%)

Administration is essential to the day to day running of our work, and includes operating our supporter service centre, and our finance, administration, HR and management teams. Fundraising is important in generating donations and gaining long-term supporters so that our work can continue.
